Burleigh crash

A WOMAN has been rushed to hospital with serious head and chest injuries after she was allegedly hit by a car in her Burleigh Heads driveway.

The 79-year-old was standing in the driveway of her Elanora Drive home while her husband was reversing when she fell to the ground hitting her head on the concrete.

The woman was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious condition.

Acting Senior Sergeant Melissa Gilbert said it was an absolute tragedy but couldn’t confirm how it had occurred.

“She was standing there when she left we just don’t know whether she was actually struck or whether she tripped or something like that,” she said.

Sen-Sgt Gilbert said the woman was critically injured.

Police have set up a crime scene and the forensic crash unit is investigating.
