Acting Sergeant Brendan Wiblen in 2019 said once inside the trio allegedly “terrorised” the two staff members and two patrons with the gun and a machete.
The terrifying holdup lasted about 10 minutes.
“This is a very violent incident, with one offender armed with a weapon and the other offender with a machete there was great fear for the staff and the patrons,” he said.
“A number of threats were made … this is a very frightening incident.”
The patrons managed to escape while the men were still inside.

Armed bandits on the run after robbing Coast tavern at gunpoint
April 27, 2019
POLICE are hunting for a group of armed bandits who stormed a Gold Coast tavern in a “violent” robbery early this morning.
Staff and patrons cowered inside the Norfolk Tavern at Ormeau as three men, with their faces covered, shot their way inside around 3.30am.

The trio stole cash trays and a number of other items from inside the tavern before escaping in a white Volkswagen Transporter van, which police later found abandoned and burnt out at Plunkett Road in Tamborine.
Police said it appeared the trio left that scene in a second vehicle.
Acting Sgt Wiblen said in-built safety measures, included timers, had reduced how much money the thieves could get their hands on.
He said it appeared preparation had gone into the robbery and believed others may have been aware of the plot.
“We believe they’ve come here with a stolen vehicle with weapons which indicates some degree of planning, it’s not necessarily sophisticated but it is violent,” he said.
“There is people that know about this.
“We will expend all effort to arrest violent, dangerous offenders like this … we’re very anxious to get these violent offenders off the streets as quickly as we can.”
Police today continued to trawl both crime scenes for clues, including forensic testing on the burnt out vehicle.
Acting Sgt Wiblen said it was difficult to issue a detailed description for the men, who are caucasian in appearance, as they were covered during the robbery.
He called for anyone with information or CCTV footage from both locations to contact PoliceLink on 131 444.
