A STREET in Hope Island is under constant police surveillance because of a known drug house, a court was told.

A man walking on Crescent Avenue carrying a backpack was suspicious enough for police to search him.

Toby Jonathon Moon allegedly had 4.89g of the drug ice (including the weight of the clip seal bag holding it) in the backpack among other drug-related items.

The 29-year-old fronted the Southport Magistrates Court today and was granted bail.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Doug Bettany said Moon told police on July 16 he was in the area to visit a friend whose name he did not know and was waiting for an Uber.

Sgt Bettany said police were conducting patrols at Crescent Ave and were aware there was a drug house located on the street.

“Police observed him walking out of the drug house on Crescent Avenue, Hope Island,” Sgt Bettany said.

“He was carrying a large backpack.

“The resident’s an ice dealer.”

Moon was arrested and charged with offences including dangerous drug possession.

Magistrate John Costanzo granted Moon bail on the condition he resided at a Tamborine Mountain residence and did not leave the house during the hours of 7pm to 5am.
