A MAN strangled his partner of 22 years until she passed out and urinated on herself, the Southport District Court heard yesterday.

The case was one of three horrific choking incidents heard at court in two days.

A fourth alleged choking case was heard in the Southport Magistrates Court on Monday.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had split from his partner three weeks beforehand and visited her in a drunken rage accusing her of lying.

The man, 41, yesterday pleaded guilty to choking, assault and wilful damage.

He walked from court after spending 193 days in prison.

Judge Paul Smith sentenced him to two years prison which he suspended yesterday for an operational period of three years.

Crown prosecutor Gary Churchill told the court spending a day drinking at a pub on February 23 this year, the man went to visit his former partner.

Mr Churchill said the man took the woman to a shed, grabbed her by the neck and squeezed so hard she could not talk, passed out and lost control of her bladder.

Defence barrister Nick McGhee, instructed by Cooper Maloy Legal, said the man planned to move to Newcastle as soon as he was released.

Mr Smith recorded a conviction.

In another matter yesterday, a 22-year-old man pleaded guilty to common assault after choking his partner during a fight.

The court heard the fight on July 23 last year began after the woman refused sex and kicked the man out of bed and punched him.

She tried to kick him in the genitalia and the man grabbed her foot before wrapping his hand around her throat and squeezing.

“Watch me get arrested, I will bury you,” the man said when the woman threatened to call police.

“I will kill you (expletive).”

Judge Smith sentenced him to six months prison which he immediately suspended for an operational period of 12 months.

“The fact is men are more powerful than women and should walk away,” Mr Smith said.

Convictions were recorded.

On Monday, the court heard a 33-year-old choked his friend twice and bit her repeatedly after she told him she did not want to be in a relationship.

He will be sentenced on Friday.

In the Southport Magistrates Court on Monday, a man accused of strangling his wife until she lost control of her bowels was granted bail.
