Staff at a small town supermarket had an early morning shock after finding what they thought was a bomb on the shelves, but it turned out to be something completely different.
Carlo’s Supa IGA on Main Western Rd at Tamborine Mountain opened its doors as normal, only to find a suspicious black device inside just after 7am.
Staff were evacuated after spotting the “sketchy” small black box had a switchboard and wires hanging off it.
But it turns out the mysterious device was actually a power source for an advertising display, which had been installed by a merchandising representative.

Police spent around 45 minutes on the scene before declaring the charger non-suspicious.
The store has since reopened and staff say while they can laugh about the incident it’s always “better to be safe than sorry”.
