Schoolies 2019: Gold Coast Police arrest twice as many non-school leavers in Surfers Paradise

More than double the number of non-Schoolies were arrested than Schoolies in the Surfers Paradise party precinct on day four of the festivities.

One-punch attacks: How lethal are they?

LOCALS and tourists are still finding themselves in trouble on the Glitter Strip, with Schoolies well-behaved in comparison.

More than double the number of non-Schoolies were arrested than Schoolies in the Surfers Paradise party precinct on day four of the festivities.

A total of seven male Schoolies were arrested on 15 offences overnight, largely relating to drugs, according to Gold Coast police.

Five Schoolies also received liquor infringement notices.

On the same night in 2018, a total of five Schoolies were arrested.

Meanwhile, 14 non-Schoolies were arrested on 26 charges, relating to public nuisance, general traffic matters, breach bail and other offences.

Police pleaded with school leavers to act responsibly, after a 17-year-old girl was filmed climbing over a high-rise balcony rail during this week’s celebrations.

Earlier this week, Queensland Ambulance Service senior operations supervisor Justin Payne spoke out after a Schoolie who had reportedly taken multiple MDMA pills tried to scale from a fifth floor balcony to the fourth floor.

Overnight, paramedics were kept busy treating a total of 51 patients, including 23 girls and 28 boys, at the hub’s Emergency Treatment Centre.

Seven of the patients were taken to hospital.
