THE victim of a horror home invasion in Gleneagle this morning has been identified as 48-year-old Michael Menzel.

Mr Menzel’s 13-year-old daughter remains with police after witnessing her father’s death.

Family friend Lisa Rielly said the victim had the “biggest heart.”

“He was a kind hearted man,” she said.

“He looked after my two little girls sometimes, he’s done a lot for me.

“I only saw him last week and then this happens.

“For something like this to happen here it’s pretty bad.”

Police are not treating the shooting as a random attack with 3-4 people believed to have been involved.

Police also believe one of them may have been a woman.

A TEENAGE girl saw her father die after he was shot in the leg during a horrifying home invasion in Queensland’s scenic rim this morning.

Police were called to the Gleneagle home before 6am after receiving a report of a break-in.

Two men were home, as well as the 13-year-old daughter of one of the men.

A black, new model, Holden Commodore utility with no registration plates was seen fleeing the scene and was last observed on the Mount Lindesay Highway.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed – or has dash camera footage or CCTV – of the vehicle, in the vicinity of Brittany Court before 6am today, to come forward.

Detectives and forensic officers are scouring the property and the road outside the home.

“He was so great, he was so nice,” neighbour Billie Beever said.

“He was always out walking his three-legged poodle it was so f***ing cute.”
