Police pursuit: P-plater allegedly driving at 220km/h on M1 in northern NSW, Tweed
Police were forced to pursue a reckless P-plater along the M1 after they allegedly clocked the teenager driving more than 100km over the speed limit.

POLICE were forced to pursue a reckless P-plater along the M1 in northern NSW after they allegedly clocked the teenager driving at speeds more than 200km/h.
On Friday at 10.45pm, Traffic and Highway Patrol officers at Sleepy Hollow, south west of Tweed, allegedly detected a Toyota Camry travelling north at 203km/h along the Pacific Motorway.
When officers caught up with the Toyota, the driver allegedly failed to pull over so a pursuit was initiated.
Police will allege the driver overtook 16 cars plus a heavy vehicle at speeds up to 220km/h.
Police followed the driver for 22km before the driver lost control and collided with a number of road signs at the Chinderah Road exit.

The driver, alleged to be a 17-year-old male, was arrested.
At the Tweed Heads Police Station he was charged with police pursuit — not stop — drive at speed, drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, and P1 driver exceed speed more than 45km/h.
His P1 licence was also suspended for six months.
He is set to appear at a children’s court on August 22 after being granted conditional bail on Saturday.
