Specialist police units including the Gold Coast Rapid Action and Patrol Group and Random Drug Testing were out and about patrolling local streets throughout the day.
More than 1000 random breath tests will be conducted across the city during the 16-hour blitz.
Police charged several people with drink driving, including a Tugun woman, 56, who was caught on Bienvenue Dr at Currumbin Waters driving at more that four times the legal drinking limit.
At least two motorists were charged for driving under the influence of a drug.
Police also issued fines for a range of other offences, including using a mobile phone while driving, not wearing a seat belt, and driving on a learner licence without a supervisor.
Senior Constable Emma Nicholson said drivers doing the wrong thing were within police sights at all times.
“We want people to know that police are out there enforcing the laws in relation to drink and drug driving,” she said.
“Driving under the influence of any illicit substance can have lethal consequences for all involved.”
