A FATHER who last year suffered a broken leg after a horror boat crash on the Broadwater has been identified as the victim of this morning’s shooting on the northern Gold Coast.

Businessman Steven Jaison Saillot, 36, was driving out of his driveway on Roe Street, Upper Coomera with a workmate when two men in a white hatchback pulled over just after 8am.

The passenger of the white car then opened fire with a handgun - fitted with a silencer - shooting Mr Saillot in the eye.

The two men, who are not known to the workmate, then fled the scene as Mr Saillot’s workmate escaped unharmed.

It is understood Mr Saillot then made his way across the park before paramedics took him to hospital with severe injuries to his eye.

Police are still hunting the two shooters.

Mr Saillot appeared in the Gold Coast Bulletin last year after a novice jetski rider smashed into his $40,000 speedboat in the Broadwater.

Mr Saillot broke his leg in the accident.

Shocked neighbours have told how they were ‘changing my baby’s nappy’ and the ‘kids are still in bed’ when the violent confrontation shattered the peaceful morning today.

Mother Jen Hutchinson said she had just moved to the area in March and it was a quiet suburb.

“I’ve got two kids in bed at the moment,” she said.

“I’m going to be locking every single door.”

Another neighbour said she heard yelling at the back of her property, which borders a small park earlier this morning, adding dogs had been barking at the commotion.

Numerous marked and unmarked police cars are on scene at the park across from the scene.

A man dressed in a forensic suit, believed to be the victim’s flatmate, is helping police with the investigation.

A police spokesperson said Mr Saillot had been shot before going through the park and finding refuge in a house on nearby Prominent Crescent.

A neighbour, who declined to be named, said she was changing her baby’s nappy when she saw two people run past the window.

She said a woman seemed to be laughing, but was actually crying.

She said the victim “had blood pouring everywhere.”

Other witnesses, who declined to be named, said they watched a woman and a man drive a car to a house next to the park before jumping out and trying to help the victim.

“He had a towel over his face,” one witness said, adding the woman hopped into the ambulance with him.
