Police investigate armed robbery of taxi driver by men with steak knives in Currumbin

Police are investigating a terrifying attack on a taxi driver in a southern Gold Coast suburb which saw him threatened by masked men carrying steak knives.

POLICE are investigating after a taxi driver was robbed by two masked men armed with knives at Currumbin last night.

Around 6.50pm the 57-year-old driver picked up the men from a park at Coolangatta Rd in Tugun and drove them to Currumbin.

They asked him to stop in front of a Mainsail Place home, then produced the “steak-style knives” and made demands for money.

Once they obtained the cash they fled the taxi. The driver was not physically injured.

Police investigations are continuing into the incident.
