TWO visitors from Sydney have been charged after a 21-year-old man was allegedly punched, fell and struck his head during a fight at Broadbeach, suffering life-threatening injuries.

The injured man, who is from NSW, was in a critical condition and on life support in hospital.

Palemi Ahloo, 19, of Carramar and co-accused Sefulutolu Tago, 19, of St Johns Park were both charged with affray after the alleged fight about 2.40am on Saturday.

Ahloo now faces an additional charge of grievous bodily harm, court documents show.

Police will allege the 21-year-old man was walking along Surf Pde when he became involved in a verbal argument with a group of men and women.

The group allegedly followed the 21-year-old before a fight broke out and the man was punched, causing him to fall and hit his head.

He was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital with significant injuries.

Gold Coast Police established a crime scene at the corner of Margaret Ave and Surf Pde and said a number of people were assisting with inquiries.

Ahloo and Tago faced Southport Magistrates Court today where they applied for and were granted bail, which was opposed by the prosecution.

Tago’s Legal Aid Lawyer Ethel Ndombi told the court there was an “issue with contested facts” and the labourer had a wholly different version of events to police.

Ahloo, represented by Legal Aid lawyer Bill Siganto, was granted conditional bail by Magistrate Michelle Dooley.

Magistrate Ron Kilner also granted Tago conditional bail.

Both men must live at specificed Sydney addresses, cannot contact named Crown witnesss and have been barred from international travel.

Ms Ndombi said it was “not alleged Tago was involved in the more serious incident, serious assault”.

Ahloo’s case was adjourned until January 7, while Tago’s case will return to court two days later.

Supporters of the men watched on from the back of court.

Gold Coast Health confirmed on Monday afternoon the 21-year-old man was still in a critical condition.

The alleged fight occurred among Schoolies festivities on the Coast, centred at Surfers Paradise.
