Mr Nicholls’ made the calls after a damning report from the Auditor General found Gold Coast police were pressured into fudging crime figures.

“People should remember that the creation of an independent office to release and provide crime statistics was another key promise of the Annastacia Palaszczuk and yet more than two years after being elected to government we are still yet to see any movement on this front,” he said.

He also slammed the state government failing to ensure police were well resourced enough to accurately report statistics.

“To do that you need to ensure there is enough police on the beat and certainly here on the Gold Coast that has been a hot topic over the last few days,” he said.

Mr Nicholls was on the Gold Coast this morning to speak at a Chamber of Commerce breakfast and slammed the state government for the bungle.

“Annastacia Palaszczuk has lost all credibility, she has lost all trust and she has thrown transparency out the window,” he said.

The LNP has also been under fire for failing to release annual crime statistics during their three years in government.

“What we did is we put the raw data online as part of our open government issues to download material from across the agencies online,” Mr Nicholls said.

Police Minister Mark Ryan said on Wednesday more than $8.4 million over three years had been set aside to establish the independent crime statistics body.
