JOHN Chardon called his wife “evil” and “greedy” when a friend confronted him after Novy Chardon went missing, a court was told.

Novy’s friend Deborah Manduapessy told the court in the days after Novy went missing on February 6, 2013 she confronted Chardon.

Ms Manduapessy said she asked him what he had done to her and he launched into an expletive-laden rant.

“Along the lines of you are overthinking, you are making an exaggeration,” she said.

“She is only taking time off and she is an evil person and she is greedy.”

Chardon, 71, has pleaded not guilty in the Supreme Court in Brisbane to Novy’s murder on or about February 6, 2013 in Upper Coomera.

Ms Manduapessy said she did not remember when she made the phone call but knew it was in the days after Novy went missing.

She said she was living in Sydney at the time after moving there months earlier.

Ms Manduapessy told the court Novy had confided in her that Chardon was having sex with other women when he went to Indonesia, including “children” aged 16 and 17.

She said Novy also said Chardon visited prostitutes when he travelled to America.

One by one friends of Novy have given details to the court about the unhappy marriage between Chardon and Novy.

Another friend, Frederika Wong, told the court she was propositioned by John Chardon the day after Novy disappeared.

Ms Wong said she went to Chardon’s house after Novy did not show up to meet friends at Robina Town Centre and was not answering her phone on February 7, 2013.

Ms Wong told the court Chardon answered the door and their two young children told her that mummy had left.

She said Chardon told her Novy had “packed her s*** in the luggage and is gone”.

Chardon then began to complain about how Novy left the house messy and never cleaned, Ms Wong told the jury.

Ms Wong said Chardon took her into Novy’s bedroom which looked unusually clean.

“When I stepped into the main bedroom the carpet felt a bit wet,” she said.

Ms Wong told the jury she was bare foot and it felt like the carpet has been “steam mopped”.

She said she looked through Novy’s room.

“Her clothes were still there,” she said.

Ms Wong said after that Chardon asked her “if my husband made me happy.”

She said he made sexual comments to her.

She said she did not respond and told Chardon she had to leave.

Ms Wong also told the court that on the day before she and Novy had made plans to meet at Robina Town Centre.

She said she spent a lot of the day with her and said Novy appeared upset, especially when they went to a Broadbeach lawyer to talk about divorce proceedings.

The court also heard that Novy purchased a house in Indonesia in the months before she disappeared in February 2013.

Ms Wong told the jury that the month before her disappearance, Novy took a number of household items such as clocks and cutlery to the house from Australia.

Ms Wong said in early January she took Novy and her daughter to the airport where they got on a flight to Indonesia.

Ms Wong said Novy told her daughter: “If daddy asks where you are staying tell daddy we are staying at Nanna’s house”.

Ms Wong said she understood Novy would be staying at her new home.

She said Novy had also told her she had $70,000 “stashed somewhere”.

Ms Wong also told the court that Novy mentioned Chardon has called police in 2010 or 2011 after an argument with Novy.

She said Novy had told her she had broken an expensive vase during her fight with Chardon.

Ms Wong gave details of a troubled married and after that fight the pair separated but remained in the same house for the sake of the children.

She said Novy began to have panic attacks in 2009 after it was revealed she had an affair.

But in 2012 Novy had her own boyfriend, Ben, who she would see on the Sunshine Coast, the jury was told.

The trial continues.
