Nobby Beach locals and traders sick of urine, vomit, broken glass and poo being left behind by drunks who frequent licensed venues
NOBBY Beach may be the new “it” suburb, but it’s come at a price, with locals fed-up with being greeted by disgusting things on their doorsteps.

DRUNK and disorderly patrons from licensed venues are turning Nobby Beach into “Knobs’ Paradise” after dark.
Nobby Beach Veterinary Clinic owner Brian Rickard said he and his staff were fed up at having to clean up urine, vomit and broken glass at the front of the clinic before they could open for business.
“At the moment, we’re a public toilet for the hospitality trade and that’s simply not on,” he said.

Mr Rickard said he contacted Liquor Licensing on Monday after arriving at work to find someone had defecated on a raised drain at the front of his clinic.
“It becomes a health issue for my staff, which is what worries me,” he said.
“When somebody does faeces there, it might be carrying hep A, hep B or hep C, which is why I make sure that I move it so that the staff are not exposed to it.”
Mr Rickard said the popular shopping strip desperately needed more public toilets to keep pace with the increase in crowds visiting the growing number of licensed venues.
Mermaid Beach MP Ray Stevens said he had asked the Attorney-General and Justice Minister Jarrod Bleijie to look into what measures the State Government could take to stop cafes operating as bars.
“Coffee shops are often running as open-air bars and lots of people are disappointed with that,” he said. “Some of the behaviour that is emanating from that activity is disturbing to residents.
“The atmosphere of nice, amiable Nobby’s has turned into an ugly place on occasions.”
Mr Stevens said he would ask police to step up their presence in Nobby’s to help address heightened reports of bad behaviour in the past couple of months.
“We need to make sure the policing is very strong and that licensing officers get in there and make sure this bad behaviour stops,” he added.
Area councillor Greg Betts said he would look at installing extra signs at the northern end of Nobby’s to point people toward the area’s only public toilets — two cubicles at the southern end of the strip.
