His flatmate, who described seeing a masked man with an iron bar, tried to revive his mate for more than 15 minutes, but his injuries were too severe.
About 100 of Mr Spencer’s family and friends filled Southport’s Metropolitan Funeral Chapel to say goodbye a week-and-a-half after his death.
Among them was Mr Spencer’s girlfriend and his seven-year-old son.
It is understood his young daughter did not attend the service.
During the funeral mourners were asked to write a letter and place it inside a motorcycle letterbox which had been welded by one of Mr Spencer’s best friends.
Those letters will one day be given to his two children.
After an hour long service the coffin was walked out to the hearse and farewelled with a round of applause.
Mr Spencer’s ashes will be returned to Nowra, NSW and a second service will be held there at a later date.
Police have spent the past week and a half interviewing those close to Mr Spencer while combing his rural property for clues.
Two detectives were also present at the funeral.
Today close to 60 family and friends have gathered at Metropolitan Funeral chapel at Southport to say their final goodbyes.
Anyone with information regarding Mr Spencer’s death is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
