Mullet man accused of stealing vibrators faces Southport Magistrates Court

A man accused of stealing vibrators and sour gecko lollies made an unusual gesture to the public gallery when he appeared in court this morning.

Police released the image of this man last week alleging he was involved in a string of thefts on the Gold Coast.

A MAN with a mullet and distinctive facial tattoos who is accused of stealing pricey vibrators from a Gold Coast sex shop will remain in custody with a magistrate deeming him an “unacceptable risk” of skipping future court appearances.

Oxenford man Ryan William Victor Grafton, 26, whose facial tattoos read “death before dishonour” and “never take my soul” in elegant font, appeared in Southport Magistrates Court this morning and applied for bail.

He has been charged with offences including robbery, stealing and receiving tainted property.

It will be alleged Grafton stole three vibrators valued at $480 from an Oxenford adult shop after asking a 52-year-old employee to show him some of the store’s goods.

It is alleged he grabbed three of the items from the countertop and ran from the store.

They included a $100 “buddy wand” USB personal massager, a $250 pulse wave vibe and a $130 “Tryst” “multi-erogenous zone” massager.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Doug Bettany said Grafton also used his personal Facebook featuring his full name to organise to buy a phone but instead stole it and took off in a stolen car.

The alleged victim gave police Grafton’s Facebook page and they were able to match him.

“The evidence is very strong,” Sgt Bettany said.

Grafton seemed uninterested in what the law officials had to say at the beginning of his court appearance as his eyes were glued to the public gallery. He made a shape of a heart with his hands and mouthed words to someone to the effect of “I love you” before crossing his arms.

Defence lawyer Hayley Robertson said Grafton had been homeless and would have lived with his parents in Oxenford if he was given bail.

Magistrate John Costanzo said Grafton has been sentenced for criminal offences nine times in the past 18 months in Queensland and also has a criminal history in two other states.

“He has a long history of drug abuse and drug offending and dishonesty,” Mr Costazo said.

“His drug use and offending is totally out of control.”

Grafton will appear in court again next month.

Photos of Grafton went viral on the internet after the Gold Coast Bulletin reported on a mulletted man with facial tattoos was wanted by police for stealing toys from a sex shop.
