INSIDERS BLAME FATAL FLAW IN CHILD SAFETY SYSTEM

The baby’s parents, a 48-year-old man and 23-year-old woman, are believed to have been a homeless couple who drifted up and down the Gold and Tweed Coasts.

They were taken to the Southport Watchhouse after being arrested yesterday.

Queensland police today confirmed they would be seeking to extradite a 48-year-old man to NSW, as it is believed the baby died there.

Queensland police will continue to assist NSW authorities, who will now handle the investigation.

NSW police confirmed they would travel to Queensland tomorrow to seek the extradition of the man. It is expected that the man will be charged with a warrant once he returns to NSW.

Police initially believed the baby died at Surfers Paradise beach.

Divers were seen to be searching the water at Tweed earlier today.

The family, which also includes a two-year-old now in the care of Child Safety, had been living ‘rough’ at Jack Evans Boat Harbour which is a popular park in the area.

The family were also seen at Kingscliff and in Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach earlier in the year.

WE’RE ALL TO BLAME FOR BABY’S DEATH

In May, authorities were alerted to their plight as residents heard the baby crying while the family slept on a park bench.

Police sources confirmed the family had ‘no fixed address’ and travelled between the Gold Coast and the border.

The family were known to Child Safety.

Since the baby’s death, residents have been leaving heartfelt tributes at Surfers Paradise.
