A MAN linked to Melbourne underworld figure Tony Mokbel has faced court on the Gold Coast on fraud charges.
Jack Doumani, 53, made a brief appearance at Southport Magistrates Court alongside his son John, 22, on several fraud charges after a police investigation into a “boiler room” cold call investment scam on the Gold Coast.
Police allege the father and son co-ordinated an unregulated business offering non-existent investment opportunities.
During raids at properties across the Gold Coast in October, police seized two luxury vehicles and a jetski as well as several computers and office equipment.
Jack Doumani is a school friend of convicted drug kingpin Mokbel and allegedly operated a betting business for him on the Gold Coast.
The pair are just two of several people facing charges for similar fraud offences following a crackdown on similar scams.
Another unrelated group, dubbed the “Irish Boys”, are accused of fleecing more than $4 million from hundreds of victims in an 18-month period.
The Doumanis will return to court on February 2.
