Man in critical condition at Gold Coast hospital after vicious fight in Tweed Heads

Paramedics have battled to save the life of a man after a vicious attack between two men in northern NSW, leaving one man in a critical condition.

Paramedics have battled to save the life of a man after a vicious attack between two men in northern NSW, leaving one man in a critical condition.

The 57-year-old victim was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital after the fight broke out yesterday evening.

Paramedics were forced to intubate him by placing a tube down his throat to help him breathe. He remains in a critical, but stable condition.

Police will allege the fight started around 6pm at Kennedy Drive in Tweed Heads West.

It is unknown what sparked the fight.

It is alleged the 47-year-old man assaulted the older man several times before emergency services were called.

Four ambulance units came to the property and treated the 57-year-old man.

The 47-year-old was taken to Tweed Heads Police Station and later transferred to Tweed Heads Hospital for treatment. He remains in hospital as well.

The younger man has been charged with recklessly causing grievous bodily harm and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
