Man dies following alleged bashing in Tweed Heads

A man has died a week after being rushed to hospital on the Gold Coast with serious injuries following an alleged argument between two men at a suburban home.

A man has died following a horrific alleged bashing in Tweed Heads last week.

Tweed-Byron Police confirmed Kevin Carney, 54, died at the Gold Coast University Hospital yesterday afternoon a week after he was rushed there with significant injuries following an alleged assault at a home on Kennedy Drive.

It will be alleged a 47-year-old man and Mr Carney were involved in an argument that led to the younger man assaulting him several times about 6pm last Wednesday.

The alleged offender was taken to Tweed Heads Police Station, before being taken to hospital for treatment to injuries he sustained.

He was charged with recklessly causing grievous bodily harm and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The 47-year-old has already appeared in front of the Tweed Heads Local Court.

He was released on conditional bail and is due to appear again in court on Monday, May 27.

A spokesman for the Tweed-Byron Police said officers from Strike Force Ypres were investigating the incident along with members of the NSW Homicide Squad.
