A MAN caught with 30mL of the drug fantasy and a handgun in his car outside a Broadbeach hotel has blamed the Gold Coast for sparking his drug addiction.

The 24-year-old was sentenced to three months prison for the drugs.

Dean Warburton pleaded guilty in the Southport Magistrates Court to possessing a weapon, possessing explosives, possessing a dangerous drug and possessing utensils relating to drugs.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Nick Wang said police searched Warburton’s car on about 2.30pm on September 6 and found the gun underneath the drivers seat.

The fantasy was also found in the car in a small glass bottle.

Defence lawyer Sam Jackson, of Bamberry Lawyers, said Warburton was a plasterer who had a long term drug problem which has started after he moved from northern NSW to the Gold Coast.

“The Gold Coast was where he was first introduced to significant drug use and it went from there,” he said.

Mr Jackson said Warburton planned to move back to NSW and stay away from the Gold Coast.

The offence also breached two suspended sentences imposed on Warburton — one for drug related crimes and one for breaching bail.

Magistrate Dermot Kehoe sentenced Warburton to three months prison.

He also ordered one of the four month suspended sentence be activated.

Warburton was given an immediate parole eligibility.
