POLICE say a man found dead at a rural Coomera property was ‘targeted’ by his attacker in the early hours of this morning.
Mark Emanuel Spencer, 37, was found by emergency services unconscious, not breathing and with head injuries on the back veranda of a Foxwell Road home at about 4am.
Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful and police have confirmed the man was assaulted and the death is being treated as suspicious.
Police are still trying to locate the weapon and say there are no suspects at this stage.
The parents of Mr Spencer, who has children from a previous relationship, have been notified and are making their way from Northern NSW.
Police say they are, understandably, ‘very, very upset’.
Detectives and forensic officers secured the scene with homicide investigators also on site.
Detective Superintendent David Hutchinson said the victim’s flatmate was assisting police.
“The person who lives in the house is at the police station,” he said.
“He’s providing full version to detectives.
“He’s not a suspect.
“As you’d expect he’s pretty traumatised by the whole situation.”
Police want to hear from anyone who was in the area or saw vehicles acting suspiciously between 12am and 4am.
Police continue to appeal for any information from the public about Mr Spencer’s death including any suspicious activity in the Foxwell Road area overnight.
Call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
