A WOMAN was five times the legal alcohol limit and had two empty bottles of wine in her car when she rolled a 4WD into an Ashmore home.

Lisa Gai Pickett, 41, pleaded guilty to multiple charges in the Southport Magistrates Court yesterday, including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, using a mobile phone while driving, assaulting police and evading police.

The court was told police first noticed the silver Mitsubishi when it began swerving from left to right on Olsen Ave, Molendinar about 6pm on March 20.

Police followed the car and gestured for Pickett to stop when they pulled up at traffic lights.

Pickett was sending a text message. She shook her head at police and drove off.

Police followed Pickett along Southport-Nerang Rd but stopped the chase when it became dangerous.

Documents tendered to the court said witnesses saw Pickett’s car mount the kerb on Moora St, clip a tree before rolling over and colliding with a house.

“(Pickett) then said to one of these witnesses, ‘quick help me, the police are chasing me’,” the document said.

Pickett refused treatment from paramedics and then poked a police officer in the chest four times.

Police breath-tested Pickett who recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.267 per cent — more than five times the legal limit. Police also found two empty white wine bottles in her car.

Despite the dangerous driving, police gave a glowing summary of Pickett after she apologised to police the next day and asked for help with her alcohol problem.

“Police believe that (Pickett) is a person of good character and that the night in question she just made a terrible mistake.”

Magistrate Gary Finger sentenced Pickett to three years probation, disqualified her from driving for five years and fined her $6700.
