A MAN who threatened to kill his partner and assaulted her by holding her head in his lap against her will has been told by a judge that he needs counselling for wanting to return to the “toxic relationship”.

Keiran Patrick John Gray, 29, fronted the Southport District Court today where he pleaded guilty to 55 offences, including assault occasioning bodily harm and depravation of liberty.

The court was told the offences, which coincided with drug use, dated back to 2016 included a burglary where he stole cards money a laptop and a car.

In October 2016, he stole a computer system among other items from a business.

Four days later he locked his then partner inside a car and threatened to kill her.

The court was told he injured her neck by forcing her head onto his lap for about two to three minutes.

He said words to the effect of “I’m going to check myself into hospital” before yelling out “I love you”.

Gray then started crying and said words to the effect of “I’m going to check myself into hospital” before yelling out “I love you”.

The next day Gray drove dangerously away from police and was later caught with drugs when he was tracked down.

Judge Catherine Muir said Gray already had a serious criminal history after committing the offences.

She said he has a serious problem with drugs, managing his emotions and following the law.

Medical reports submitted to the court said he suffered from post traumatic stress and he had been the victim of brutal attacks during a violent home invasion.

Judge Muir said she was concerned that he planned to get back together with his partner who was the complainant of his offences.

She said the gaps in his offending coincided with periods away from his former partner.

“You are a man who is in need of guidance and counselling, this is a toxic relationship in which you are both drug users,” Judge Muir said.

“It seems each time you two get back together you get back on the drugs.”

He was sentenced to a total of three years prison.

The total of 404 days he had already spent on in custody was counted as time already served.

Gray was released on parole today.
