True Crime Australia: Rise of the online predator

A WOMAN has taken to social media claiming her son was approached by two strangers and told to get in their car at Labrador.

However, Queensland Police have no record of the apparent incident on Robert St yesterday.

The woman took to Facebook and said her son “was approached by a small blue car with a male and female” inside about 8.30am.

She said the man and woman were “telling him to get in the car”.

“I have notified police but would like to hear if anyone else knows or has heard anything similar?” she wrote.

“But also talk to your kids about predators!! Please keep your children safe!!”

The post which went online about 3.30pm attracted a flurry of comments from concerned parents and seemingly prompted at least one school to issue a “Stranger Danger Alert”.

Musgrave Hill State School sent a text message “that a student at a local school has reported being approached by two strangers (a male and a female) in a vehicle”.

The school asked parents and carers to use the opportunity to “revisit stranger danger strategies” with their children.

Phoned for more information, a Queensland Police spokesman said he was unable to find any record of the incident.

He suggested the situation may ultimately have been overblown and “not much of anything”.

The spokesman said parents were often “super vigilant” in reporting anything considered suspicious.
