Ivona Jovanovic: Gold Coast police search for blanket owners in shooting investigation

Detectives are searching for the owner of a blanket, allegedly stolen by a man after he ran from his home, following the shooting of Ivona Jovanovic.

DETECTIVES are searching for the owner of a blanket, allegedly stolen by Christos Panagakos after he ran from his home, following the shooting of Ivona Jovanovic.

Police believe Panagakos, 27, may have stolen the blanket and used it while he was hiding in nearby bushland, before he returned to his home about 1am on Monday.

In a statement police said they are searching for the owners of the blanket.

“A crime scene was established at the address where a 27-year-old man, who was a resident, returned around 1am on Monday and was taken into custody,” the statement reads.

“The 27-year-old Highland Park man was wearing a blanket (pictured) at the time, which investigators believe may have been stolen from a nearby residence.

“Police are now appealing to anyone who believes they may be the owner of the blanket to come forward.

“Police also continue their appeal for anyone who saw anything suspicious on Renfrew Drive and Kincaid Drive or who has CCTV or dashcam vision from the area to contact investigators.”

Investigations into the shooting are ongoing, no one has been charged at this point, with police still searching for the other people inside the home when Ms Jovanovic was shot.

The 27-year-old from Labrador died after being shot in the chest at a home in Highland Park on Sunday night, her friends ran from the home, leaving the mother of Panagakos to call emergency services.

She was rushed to hospital, but died shortly after arrival.

Investigators are looking into whether the shooting was a bizarre accident, or something more sinister.
