THE body of a pregnant Gold Coast nurse has been found dumped in a canal in India a week after she was kidnapped while visiting her parents, Indian police say.

Ravneet Kaur, 29, had been working as a registered nurse at Tricare on the Gold Coast, before jetting off to India on February 25 on an extended holiday to visit family and friends with her four-year-old daughter.

At four months pregnant Ms Kaur had travelled to Bagge Ke Pipal village, when on March 14, she stepped outside her parents’ home to take a video call from her husband, Jaspeet Singh, back in Australia.

She was snatched off the streets about 11.30am local time and was never seen alive again.

It is understood Ms Kaur was supposed to fly home to Australia on March 22.

Police in India, speaking exclusively with the Gold Coast Bulletin, today confirmed the grisly find.

Inspector Mohit Dhawan from the Punjab region said Ms Kaur’s body was found yesterday in a canal and confirmed they had arrested one person in relation to the kidnap and murder.

“She was talking to her husband on video call outside the house (her parents’ home) when she went missing,” Insp Dhawan said.

“She was murdered on the day she was kidnapped and her body was disposed of in a canal.

“We found her body last night.

“We have arrested one person in relation to this.”

He said Indian authorities had been in contact with the Australian High Commission based in New Delhi.

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) said in a statement to the Gold Coast Bulletin that it is “aware of the death of an Australian citizen in India.”

Queensland Police sources said they were aware of the investigation in India and were awaiting any “formal request from Indian authorities”.

In an interview with Channel 9 on the Gold Coast last week, Ms Kaur’s husband Jaspreet Singh was holding back tears as he said he would not be going to India.

“I just want my wife back,” Mr Singh said.

“I don’t trust the local authorities over there.”

Kerrie Hawker, who worked with Ms Kaur at Tricare for six years, said she had been in touch with Ms Kaur’s family who confirmed her death.

Ms Hawker said Ravneet would light up a room when she entered it, a beautiful soul.

“It’s heartbreaking, she was so nice, she didn’t deserve this, it’s just awful,” Ms Hawker said.

“She had a little four-year-old girl and she was four months pregnant with a little boy. It’s devastating.

“She had a heart of gold, she wouldn’t hurt anyone. She was so loving and her smile would light up a room. It was the most beautiful smile.

“It’s just so, so, so sad.”

Ms Hawker said she was a devoted worker and mother.

“She was devoted to her work and her daughter, a wonderful mother, no-one would say a bad word about her.

“You would never expect something like this to happen to her … it’s hit home so hard.

“I’m just so devastated.

“If only I could say to her, ‘you’re in danger don’t go’. It’s too late … we all miss her so much.”

Friends of Ms Kaur are invited to Surfers Paradise beach at 4.30pm on Friday for a flower ceremony in celebration of her life.

The Bulletin has contacted the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade for comment.
