A GOLD Coast lawyer has developed an innovate approach to divorce which could save taxpayers billions of dollars and couples at least $40,000 in legal fees.
Marie Fedorov of Fedorov Lawyers has pioneered the Australian version of the USA’s ‘Divorce
in a Day’ and ‘Divorce Hotels’ with the her new ‘Family Mediation Station’.
“Divorce is always the absolute last option but my motto has always been, life is too short —
get a divorce,” she said.
“That’s why I came up with my one-day mediation and divorce program — it’s the way of the
future.
Family Mediation Station will save clients time, money and the emotional burden of
having to go to Court.”
Marie’s program now rivals exhaustive waiting lists at Government-funded mediation centres
and provides peace of mind for clients concerned about mounting legal costs.
“The average time between separation and divorce is three and a half years and then there’s
another five years or more before families can start to recover both economically and
emotionally,” she said.
“We provide same day mediation and formalisation of an agreement. This is done on the spot
so that clients can move on with their new life immediately.
“If an agreement is not reached, the parties have to retain lawyers and start the litigation
process. It is therefore in everyone’s best interests to reach an agreement to avoid future costs
and the stress litigation, which ends up costing upwards of $40,000.
“I’ve done my research and the impact on communities from divorce costs the nation up to
$14 billion in 2014, up from $12 billion in 2012 in government assistance payments, court
costs and so on.”
