Police raided homes around Brisbane’s north and Currumbin Waters yesterday after a number of pigs were stolen from a piggery in Pittsworth, near Toowoomba, on November 10.

The search warrants were carried out by officers from the Major and Organised Crime Squad (Rural) and Firearms and Cannabis Team.

Police will allege the piglets were taken from their mother shortly after they were born, before they received their first milk, which contains colostrum, which is vital for survival.

Two of the piglets were recovered from a home in Maryborough but police are still trying to track down the remaining animals.

Four women in their 20s from Brisbane and the Moreton Bay area have been charged over the theft.

Investigations are ongoing.
