Gold Coast Police officers responded to reports of an assault with a bladed weapon, thought to be a knife, at Robina Town Centre about 5.30pm.

Police said the boy suffered a “big gash on his hand”, but the injuries were not life-threatening.

Queensland Ambulance paramedics treated the victim, thought to be aged about 13, and took him to Gold Coast University Hospital with a “laceration to the hand”, a spokeswoman said.

The teenager was in a stable condition and needed to have his hand inspected by a doctor.

The 13-year-old sustained a serious laceration to his left hand, after one of the members of the opposing group slashed him with a knife.

The boy fell to the ground, where he was further kicked and punched by the offender and another male, before the opposing group ran away.

He was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital for treatment.
