Seven people have been charged over a violent assault and robbery on a busy beachside road during which a couple was allegedly slashed with a knife.

SEVEN people have been charged over a violent assault and robbery at Broadbeach during which a couple was allegedly slashed with a knife.
Police overnight charged five men and two boys over the January 8 incident, which occurred on Broadbeach Boulevard.
The five men, all 18 and from Victoria, and the boys, 17 were all been charged with one count each of assault occasioning bodily harm and stealing.

Police will allege a group of three men approached a man and woman sitting on a bench before a short altercation occurred.
Another, more violent, confrontation is alleged to have occurred a short time later when a group of seven men approached the couple and pulled a knife.
During the incident the woman received cuts to her foot while the man was treated for a laceration to his hands.
Police alleged the woman’s handbag was stolen by the men who fled the scene on foot.
The five men are all due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on March 11.
