Gold Coast crime: Police hunting for two men after violent home invasion at Benowa

A MANHUNT is underway for two men who allegedly broke into a Gold Coast home this morning and attacked the owners in a shocking start to the new year.

A MANHUNT is underway for two men who broke into a home armed with a gun and wearing balaclavas in Benowa this morning.

The two men forced their way into the Fullerton Street home about 4am.

It is believed the men confronted a man and woman living in the house.

The 44-year-old man who lives at the home fled the property and ran to a nearby police station.

The men allegedly pushed the 39-year-old female to the ground before leaving on foot.

The woman has been treated for shock.

Police were called shortly after 4am.

Six police crews attended the house about 4.30am, which has been declared a crime scene.

Neighbours say they woke up to the sound of someone screaming for help.

One neighbour said they didn’t think it was “anything out of the ordinary” as they hear yelling and screaming from the property most nights of the week.

“If we hear anyone screaming, we don’t go outside,” a neighbour said.

“We hear screaming almost every night.

“There is always people coming and going.

“It’s easier for to stay inside and not try to be the hero because we don’t know what we could get into. We are always concerned for our safety.”

About 12 police officers arrived just before 4.30am and closed both ends of the street before blocking access to the property.

One neighbour saw two men jump the large fence with an object in there hand, believed to be a shotgun.

The owners are understood to have moved into the property roughly a year ago.
