The manhunt continues this morning for a pair of hammer-wielding thieves over two armed robberies on the Gold Coast overnight.

The manhunt was launched late last night after the men began their crime spree by stealing a luxury car from a Hinterland house.

A 65-year-old woman drove into the garage of a house in Mudgeeraba’s Glenny Drive around 11.45pm when a man armed with a hammer approached her car demanding she open the car door.

The woman refused and immediately reversed out of the garage and drove around 300m to her son’s home in nearby Clover Hill Drive.

The armed man followed her to the house in a small red sedan where he then stole a black 2014 Audi A3 sedan with Queensland registration 767-VOS, which had been parked in the driveway.

Both vehicles then sped away from the scene.

The 65-year-old woman was not physically injured.

In panic, the woman reversed and smashed her car into a brick fence next to a roundabout and across the street from her sons house during the incident.

The woman returned to her sons home this morning and was very distraught she couldn’t talk.

Asked if she was okay, she said: “no. It was so scary”.

“He wanted to rob me when I got home.

“Because I drive slow in my car I have my (car doors locked). He wanted me to step out. I reversed.”

A resident who lives across the street said he wasn’t sure when the woman crashed into the fence as the woman was “terrified”.

The crime spree picked up again at 2.15am this morning when two men in the stolen Audi approached a pair of tourists from Singapore outside The Star Casino on Broadbeach’s Casino Drive
