FORMER soldier Christopher Robert Carter has walked free from court after being found not guilty of murdering his ex-wife Renee Carter and her convicted paedophile boyfriend Corey Croft in a double killing on the Gold Coast.
A Brisbane Supreme Court jury this afternoon found Carter, 39, was not guilty of murdering the pair in their Upper Coomera home on January 20, 2015.
He was also found not guilty of the alternative charge of manslaughter.
During the trial, Carter admitted to killing the couple — stabbing both multiple times before leaving the house and dumping his clothes in a nearby bin.
But his defence barrister David Brustman QC, instructed by Howden Sagger Lawyers, successfully argued it was in self-defence, claiming his ex-wife came at him with a knife and Mr Croft attacked him.
The pair’s five-year-old son was left in the home with his dead parents for more than 24 hours after they were stabbed to death.

Carter’s family wept as the verdict was handed down and Carter thanked the jury members as they left the courtroom.
Carter who, has been on remand for several years, was discharged by Justice Martin Burns after the jury found him not guilty for both murders.
The court heard Carter had several years earlier learned Mr Croft had forced a 10-year-old girl to shower with him.
