A COUPLE living in the former home of ex Hells Angels bikie Ben Geppert were drifting off to sleep when their neighbour’s residence was peppered with bullets.

It’s understood the shooting on John Francis Dr at Carrara in the early hours of Thursday morning may be linked to a feud between Geppert and other outlaw motorcycle gang members operating on the Gold Coast.

The man and woman, who asked not to be identified, only moved to Carrara a fortnight ago from New South Wales – and said they were starting to regret that decision.

“We had just both gotten into bed not long before and were about to fall asleep” he said.

“I was just nodding off to sleep, so I only heard two (shots).

“I just thought it was someone banging on the door and I wasn’t really bothered, I didn’t give a f---.

“(My partner) told me to go upstairs and have a look.

“I didn’t know anything, didn’t see anything until the cops knocked on our door an hour later and said there had been gunshots.

“I sat up until like 2am (Friday morning) in the garage with a big metal pole, waiting to hear someone walk down the driveway.”

The man said he believed rival bikies may have been “trying to scare Ben, or God knows what”, but shot up the wrong home.

He was initially quite confident the loud ‘bangs’ which echoed through the quiet residential street were not gunshots.

“Well, obviously I was mistaken,” he said.

“You can see bullet holes on the front of the house.

“The police just asked us what we heard, what we did at the time really. Asked us some questions.”

The couple have only been in the house two weeks after moving from New South Wales.

The resident said he had his garage door wide open at the time of the shooting.

He said his next door neighbours were shaken up, but uninjured.

“The neighbours are our owners and they own this house. They’re shocked,” he said.

“They’re middle aged, really nice, straight people.

“They know that nobody could want to hurt them so the only possible scenario is us, or the people who used to live here, and we don’t know anyone here.”

The woman said she heard “four or five shots” and “thought straight away it was something serious”.

“I was shit-scared. I knew they weren’t normal sounds,” she said.

“They were massive bangs. It wasn’t physically possible for someone to knock that loud.

“We only just moved in. It’s been about two weeks now. I’ve had the worst experience so far. It hasn’t been good.”

The couple said they felt fortunate their home was not targeted.

Photos of Geppert were found by the couple inside the home after they moved in, the man said.

Police sources have told the Bulletin the Carrara house was shot up to five times.

It is believed the shooter had crouched behind a car and fired a number of rounds before fleeing the scene.

No-one was injured during the shooting incident.

Sources have told the Bulletin a number of bullet casings were found out the front of the home.

It is unknown what type of firearm was used, but police suspect it was a long-armed rifle.

No one has been charged at this point, with police following up a number of lines of inquiry.

A police spokeswoman said detectives were investigating the incident.
