THE teenager accused of stabbing Harrison Geppert to death will be held in protective custody due to fears about his safety.

Former Miami State High School student Jarvis Farrier, 18, was this afternoon charged with a single count of murder.

Geppert, the brother of former Hells Angel bikie Ben ‘Notorious’ Geppert, was found in Frascott Park in Varsity Lakes with a stab wound to his back about 5.35pm yesterday.

It’s understood Farrier went to Coomera Police Station late last night, before he was taken to Southport Watchhouse. He was charged with murder this afternoon.

Farrier did not appear in the Southport Magistrates Court to face the charges.

Farrier’s solicitor Dan Rawlings, of Rawlings Criminal Law, asked for Farrier to be held in protective custody.

“I ask for the recommendation due to safety concerns,” he said.

Mr Rawlings declined to give more detailed reasons.

Mr Rawlings said it was not necessary for Farrier to appear in the courtroom.

He did not make any application for bail.

Magistrate Joan White agreed to make the recommendation to Queensland Corrective Services to hold Farrier in protective custody.

She adjourned the matter to September 19.

Farrier’s Upper Coomera home was being searched by forensic police this afternoon.

A crime scene has been established and officers have been seen bringing bags of evidence out of the home.

The quiet neighbourhood is a hive a police activity, with detectives inside the house.

Police believe last night’s incident happened on a nearby street, before spilling into Frascott Park as Geppert tried to get away.

Acting Detective Superintendent Brendan Smith in a media conference today said witnesses saw two vehicles in the street during the alleged attacks.

“We’re seeking anyone in that immediate vicinity that may have seen two strange vehicles where a group of males got out of one vehicle and commenced an assault of the deceased,” he said.

Supt Smith said police would allege that the accused got out of another vehicle and stabbed Mr Geppert.

“We know there was at least one person (with the deceased) but we believe there may have been others and that’s why we’d like not only witnesses to come forward, but we would like those other males involved in the night to come forward too, they may not be aware of what the final result of what the attack was.

“It’s quite clear that there had been… two separate incidents there, and the accused has come in after the first attack.”

He said they were very interested in speaking to the group of teens, believed to be aged 16-17, who were there during the assault.

“The gravity of what’s occurred probably hasn’t struck home yet and we need to stress upon them to come forward and give their version before it gets diluted out,” he said.

He confirmed the attack was not believed to be related to a street gang and that “there’s disenfranchised youth that sometimes do the wrong thing…”

He said a postmortum would likely happen tomorrow.

Earlier, Supt Smith said a group of “up to seven or eight males” are believed to have been involved in an altercation but it was “unclear” how they arrived at the scene, with police looking for information on any “unusual activity” or vehicles in the area.

The “bladed” weapon has not been found and police have urged residents in the Frascott Park area to check their front gardens and rubbish bins for any evidence.

Supt Smith confirmed an 18-year-old man was in custody after he came to Coomera police last night.

Supt Smith said the pair were known to each other and police alleged the incident was not a “random” attack.

Supt Smith said there was no indication the incident was related to drugs, or to the victim’s older brother, former Hells Angels bikie Ben Geppert.

“There’s certainly no links at all to any outlaw motorcycle gang activity or any historical events that (Ben) Geppert and his motorcycle gang were involved in,” he said.

“Unfortunately it would appear to be something as simple as two groups of youths arguing over a previous incident where one didn’t back up another.”

Supt Smith said he did not expect revenge attacks, but warned police would come down hard if there were.

“It’s very unlikely there will be any revenge or retaliation amongst that group,” he said.

“The people involved are in their late teens, we’re confident that the seriousness of the event last night will sink in today.”
