NOTORIOUS ex-Bandido Jacques Teamo will become the latest accused rioter to join the defection from Queensland’s largest bikie trial.

Solicitor Chris Hannay will tomorrow launch a court application to give Teamo the right to his own individual trial separate from 26 ex-gang members accused of rioting in the Broadbeach brawl last year.

Teamo is accused of sparking the street fight by allegedly threatening two Finks associates in the Aura Tapas and Loungebar on September 27 last year.

Police have alleged around 60 Bandidos wearing club colours were in the restaurant precinct that night in a planned “show of force” and many joined the melee outside the restaurant.

The incident was the catalyst for the Newman Government to introduce the controversial Vicious Lawless Association Disestablishment Act which is now being contested in the High Court.

A two-week joint summary trial including more than 26 alleged ex-Bandidos charged with riot has been scheduled to run in the Southport Magistrates Court from September 15.

But last week, lawyers began launching applications to split from the trial “in the interests of justice”.

Former Moorooka Bandido Jonathan James Casiotis became the first to successfully secure his own trial in February next year.

Yesterday, barrister Sam Di Carlo argued to have two high-profile Brisbane ex-Bandidos given individual trials.

He said police had failed to particularise the exact roles former Brisbane chapter president Adam White and former vice-president Ahmed Kaddour had played in the riot.

Di Carlo claimed White should not have even been charged as he had been tasered by police before the riot had gotten underway.

But Senior Sergeant Eric Engwirda said the riot was deemed to have started from the moment threats were made inside the restaurant.

He also reinforced that all accused Bandidos should be heard in one trial to minimise court costs and the impact on the potential 108 witnesses.

“We say that all the accused were in the Broadbeach precinct for a common purpose — they made a show of force and demonstrated to others that their particular group was in charge of Broadbeach,” he said.

Magistrate Ron Kilner will hand down his decision on White and Kaddour’s application today before hearing Teamo’s case tomorrow.
