THE family of two victims from the Dreamworld tragedy has laid the blame squarely on the theme park, saying the death of four people in October 2016 has “throttled” loved ones.

Relatives of Kate Goodchild and Luke Dorsett said: “We are tired and devastated and horrified by the evidence that has come out this week.

“We hold Dreamworld totally responsible for this tragic event that could have so easily been avoided. It has throttled our family.”

The terrifying incident on October 25, 2016, happened after a pump stopped working on the Thunder River Rapids Ride, the water levels dropped and a raft got stuck on a conveyor.

That boat was hit by a raft carrying Mr Dorsett, his sister, Ms Goodchild, her daughter Ebony, 12, Roozbeh Araghi, Cindy Low and her son, Kieran, 10. Their raft flipped. The four adults died.

Ms Goodchild’s partner David Turner and her father Shayne Goodchild have attended the inquest at Southport every day this week, sitting quietly in the back of court.

The statement was released by their lawyer Steven Whybrow on behalf of Mr Turner and Mr Goodchild.

Dreamworld CEO Craig Davidson said in response: “Dreamworld’s thoughts remain with the families of the victims who lost their lives in the terrible tragedy almost two years ago.

“We understand that this has been a harrowing week for them and that they are devastated and horrified.

“We share those feelings. We are truly sorry this happened.

“It is our aim to assist the coroner as best we can to help understand how this tragedy occurred, and what we can do to ensure it never happens again.”

The inquest is expected to continue next week before being adjourned until October.
