Mr Picone is still in hospital, has a 3cm cut near his left arm pit and has needed doctors to drain blood from his lungs.

Police will allege after Mr Picone parked his car, Smith, driving a Mitsubishi Triton Ute, boxed him in.

It will be alleged the pair got out of the cars and Smith began to punch Mr Picone.

Mr Picone called out “Stop, stop”, but Smith began to punch him, police will allege.

Parents and their children at the park, which was being used for training by Mudgeeraba Redback Junior Rugby League teams, watched on in horror.

A witness helped Mr Picone and used a jumper to stop the flow of blood while another bystander allegedly followed Smith as he drove off.

The bystander pointed Smith out to police at a nearby traffic stop on Gemvale Road, police allege.

Police followed Smith’s car and when stopped the officer drew his gun on Smith.

Police will allege Smith told them a camouflage handle knife with a 10cm blade was in his waistband.

It is alleged the knife could be opened with one hand.

Smith appeared in court this morning with his left hand in a cast from hand to elbow.

He wore a green prison-issue T-shirt and blue pants.

Members of his family sat quietly in the back of the courtroom for his appearance.

Defence lawyer Campbell MacCallum, of Moloney MacCallum Abdelshahied Lawyers, asked the matter be adjourned to August 7 for the bail application to be made.

“I note from the QP9 material that there has been no complaint made on the charges and whoever hears the application on Tuesday will want to be appraised whether the complaint was made,” he said.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Rachel French said a statement was yet to be taken as Mr Picone was still in hospital.

Mr Picone is in the Gold Coast hotel management rights-industry and is understood to be worth millions.

The Picone family have made their fortune through property on the Gold Coast.

Mr Picone’s father, Frank, was considered to be one for the Gold Coast’s most successful management rights operators.

In 2014, the family sold Freshwater Point at Broadbeach.

They also sold the Chevron Renaissance building to Mantra in 2015, after acquiring it during the property slump in 2009.
