A CRUISE ship singer accused of murdering a Gold Coast cheerleader has been released on bail — without the GPS tracker he was ordered to wear by the court.

Jayden Moorea, previously known as Dan Shearin, was granted bail on Monday with the condition he wear a GPS tracker.

But no tracker was available at Southport Watchhouse because they take up to a week to be transferred from Brisbane, meaning Moorea, 45, was released about 6pm Monday without the tracker affixed.

The ankle bracelet is expected to arrive tomorrow.

Moorea is accused of throwing girlfriend Breeana Robinson off a Southport balcony in 2013. He has also been charged with stalking a number of women.

His release has raised questions about why it takes so long for a device to be moved from Brisbane to Southport.

Under Queensland law, when ordering a GPS tracker be worn on bail, it must also be ordered the defendant remain in custody until a tracker is affixed.

If that order is not made the defendant must be released on bail.

No order was made in relation to Moorea.

Moorea’s lawyer Chris Hannay, of Hannay Lawyers, said Moorea was expected to return to the Southport Watchhouse tomorrow to have the tracker fixed to his ankle.

He said Moorea had been measured for the tracker.

“The police are not helping themselves with the matter,” Mr Hannay said.

He said Moorea appeared content and talkative.

Mr Hannay said he was still strenuously denying the charges.

A Bulletin investigation last September found police were not monitoring the trackers around the clock.

Police Minister Mark Ryan rejected the claim, saying the trackers were being monitored “in real time every second of every day”.

Police declined to provide details of how many people were monitoring perpetrators and if it was a 24-7 operation, citing commercial in confidence.

The investigation also found the GPS tracking devices were held in Brisbane and sent to watchhouses across the state as needed — often taking days.

Mudgeeraba MP Ros Bates told the Bulletin yesterday she could not understand the delay.

“It doesn’t take a week to drive down the M1 with the tracker,” she said.

To date, nobody has been able to explain why the devices cannot be stored on the Gold Coast.

Queensland Law Society president Bill Potts said it should not take “a few days” for a tracker to get from Brisbane to the Gold Coast.

“Why doesn’t the Gold Coast have it’s own tracker stock?” he asked.

Moorea was granted bail with a number of strict conditions including the GPS tracker and that he would also have to tell police if he intended to begin any sexual relationship, as well as inform the person of his bail orders.
