THE homeless woman accused of throwing coffee on a court volunteer has been deemed too intoxicated to face court.

Janet Abugan appeared briefly in Southport Magistrates Court this afternoon to face a single charge of public nuisance.

Abugan is accused of causing a scene outside court room one after she was asked to leave as she was speaking too loudly just before 10.30am today.

A court room volunteer followed her outside the court room to speak with her.

Abugan is then alleged to have thrown coffee on the volunteer.

A loud banging was heard in the court room, it is alleged.

The volunteer is a retired woman who gives her time everyday to help out in the arrest court by checking in defendants, answering questions and helping prosecutors ensure the court keeps moving quickly.

Abugan was at court to support her brother.

The court was told there was some concern Abugan was intoxicated and off her mental health medication.

Magistrate Mark Howden adjourned the matter until tomorrow morning.
