POLICE have asked for two weeks to decide if they will proceed with tainted property charges against three Gold Coast men allegedly involved in one of the biggest “boiler room” scams in Queensland history.

Christopher Pappas and father-son duo Jack and John Doumani were mentioned in the Southport Magistrates Court today on one count each of possessing tainted property.

The items seized by police include a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, a Yamaha jetski, watches, a $200,000 Bentley, BMW Z4 and cash.

Police allege the group were involved in complex boiler room operations which included Charterhurst Agencies Pty Ltd and other companies.

Charterhurst Agencies sold sports betting software.

Police allege it was a cold call investment fraud operation which took a combined $59 million from investors over a six-year period.

Police allege Pappas was the operations manager of the company and Doumani Jnr and Snr were principals.

Today the court heard the tainted property charges were summary offences linked to fraud charges currently proceeding through higher courts.

The court heard the tainted property matter had been part heard previously.

Senior Sergeant Damien Summerfield said it was a “very complicated matter” and asked for an adjournment so police could determine whether to proceed with the charges while they continue to prosecute the alleged frauds.

Darren Mahony, of Jacobson Mahony Lawyers, represented Pappas and the Doumanis.

He told the court a hearing for the matter would take about “five minutes based on the Crown case”.

“We’ve had the brief for two years,” Mr Mahony told the court, adding that the charges dated back to 2015.

Magistrate Mark Howden adjourned the matter until August 9 and excused the appearance of Pappas and the Doumanis.

Asked outside court whether the items would be returned Jack Doumani told the Bulletin: “time will tell.”
