Witness tells police she saw Bronson Ellery attack Shelsea Schilling in Gold Coast unit
He bashed her head against the tiles, leaving her unconscious and with a broken nose, and then pushed her head into a pillow, suffocating her.
The 24-year-old then changed into his best suit and played his favourite song before positioning himself next to Ms Schilling’s lifeless body and placing her arm over his stomach.
A source close to the investigation said someone helped the heavily-tattooed Ellery take a fatal dose of drugs to end his own life.

Police are investigating whether Ellery gave Ms Schilling, despite her major injuries, a “hot shot” before taking a lethal dose of drugs himself.
The note addressed to Ms Schilling’s mother, father and sister was found in Shelsea’s hand bag.
It told the family, “I’m sorry for taking your daughter’s life, she loves you very much”.
Through the note, Ellery said he also loved her and that she wanted to be cremated.
Ms Schilling is expected to be buried today.
Fourth person at Southport unit the afternoon Bronson ‘Lizard Man’ Ellery and Shelsea Schilling died
The family did not want to talk about the note when approached late last week.
After taking a score of prescription medicine, Ellery waved a sawn-off shotgun in Ms Schilling’s face and at several witnesses believed to have been in the room at the time.
A female witness on Wednesday gave a statement to police after admitting to being inside the Johnston Street unit.
A source told the Bulletin: “The girl (a female witness) was given the opportunity to leave at one stage. He had a gun (with him). He made it clear that no one was going to get out of there alive”.
Police believe there were three other people at the property the time Ms Schilling was murdered – one of whom may have assisted Ellery to take his own life.
It is not known how Ms Schilling got to the property.
Shelsea Schilling’s heartbroken mum says ‘she was left to die’
Ms Schilling’s mother, Bonnie Mobbs, said her daughter had told her she was frightened of Ellery following their split because she had seen guns at his property.
“She said he had access to guns at all times,” she said.
“He always had weapons and guns and that was a reason she was so frightened.”
Ms Schilling had been missing since Wednesday afternoon after she told her parents she would be over for dinner but never arrived.
“They still don’t know how Shelsea got there (to Ellery’s apartment),” Ms Mobbs said.
“We don’t know and maybe that’s something we will never know.
“On Wednesday afternoon we spoke but that’s when the storm came and we just thought she stayed home anyway.
“We know now that when she walked out the door she told her flatmate she was going to see Mum and Dad and that was the last contact we had.”
