THE parents of a Coomera baker broke down in tears as their son faced court for downloading and sharing thousands of “appalling and degrading” child pornography images and videos.

New Zealand citizen and Bakers Delight worker Jesse Baker, 28, was caught by police with 3189 unique files on his devices during a raid on his home on January 16 last year.

A total of 123 images and 800 movies were rated by investigators as being in the worst possible categories.

The material included children being sexually abused by adults, Southport District Court was told.

Juveniles pictured ranged in age from toddlers to prepubescent teens, male and female.

On July 25, 2018, Baker took part in an interview with police and made admissions to distributing the material to others online through Dropbox file sharing, resulting in the distribution charge.

Labels on Baker’s Dropbox included “child porn” and “pre-teen”.

Baker, who had no prior record, pleaded guilty to possessing and distributing child exploitation material in the court on Wednesday.

His parents watched on from the public gallery, appearing anguished.

Judge Ian Dearden said he was not provided with copies of the material to inspect, but felt “troubled when I have to even read the descriptions” provided by prosecutors.

He emphasised to Baker the “appalling and degrading” material pictured “actual children who were actually abused”.

Judge Dearden said he weighed up Baker’s remorse, considerable co-operation with police, early guilty pleas, work ethic and a lack of history.

The court was also told Baker, described as “disgusted” by his actions, lived with a congenital bowel condition, hypoglycaemia and had experienced poor mental health.

Baker was sentenced to two-and-a-half years jail, suspended after six months for three years.

Judge Dearden said Baker may be deported to New Zealand.
