A FORMER aged care worker who claims the son of iconic winemaker Wolf Blass bashed her inside a Surfers Paradise unit originally informed paramedics she was injured in an accident.

But the 25-year-old woman told Southport Magistrates Court she lied to ambulance officers because she was scared of Anton Blass – who professed his innocence as he walked from the court during a break on Wednesday.

Blass, 34, told members of the media they would hear “the good news” soon – expecting he would be found not guilty.

The professional fisherman and engineer faced court for the second day of hearing, pleading not guilty to two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm.

Prosecutor Brett Dixon alleges Blass repeatedly punched the woman in the face and hurled her into a bedframe at Focus Apartments on September 8 last year during an argument.

Under cross-examination by defence barrister Angelo Vasta QC, the woman denied blackmailing Blass, stalking him, or sending texts and emails professing her love after the alleged abuse.

She also denied scratching Blass’ face and ripping rosary beads and other jewellery from his neck before he shoved her away, causing her to bounce on the bed and accidentally strike her head on the bedframe.

“If it wasn’t for the police I wouldn’t have got out of there and I’d probably be dead,” she said.

Unable to answer a barrage of Mr Vasta’s questions, the Adelaide woman claimed she struggled with memory loss after the events.

She also denied emailing Blass and telling him that her mother would disown her and she would be financially worse off if she “told the truth”.

Taking to the stand, Blass said he began a sexual relationship with the woman in early 2017.

“It was just really great sex for two months,” he said.

Blass told the court he realised the woman was “erratic” and unsuccessfully “tried to break up with her”.

However he said the woman later tracked him down in Thailand, where he was attending rehab to overcome an addiction to opiates.

“She was stalking me”, he said

“I just tried to get away from her.”

Blass told the court the woman “hacked” his bank accounts on various occasions and stole about $5000.

He also said the woman already had bruising on her body when she arrived at his Gold Coast apartment from Adelaide in September last year.

Blass reiterated he pushed the woman off him when she ripped the jewellery from his neck.

“It was just an accident and I pushed her,” he said.

“I think violence against women is one of the worst bloody things in the world.”

Blass and Mr Vasta handed up broken rosary beads to the court.

The hearing was adjourned to June 16, when it’s expected to be finalised.
