IT was the text that sparked a shooting scare at a Gold Coast school.

An Elanora State High student texted ‘I’m going to die tomorrow’ and said another student had told her ‘ur cool, don’t come to school tomorrow’.

“I don’t know if he’s joking or not,” she wrote.

It comes as the alleged shooting threat at Elanora State High School today is understood to have come from a student who was the subject of bullying.

Several senior students were reportedly discussing the ‘planned shooting’ through social media app, Snapchat, and on the bus-ride home from school yesterday.

As a result, concerned parents refused to send their students to school today.

Parents told the Gold Coast Bulletin they were furious by the school’s actions and failure to adequately establish whether the threat had been investigated properly.

A school spokesman said they had contacted police and no students were at risk. “It is a normal school day.”

Police confirmed they have undertaken a full investigation, and don’t believe it is a legitimate threat.

However, one concerned parent told the Gold Coast Bulletin: “The students are scared.

“I only found out last night, and had no notification from the school about the issue.

“It’s the school’s responsibility to let us know what’s going on — I’m disgusted and flabbergasted nothing has been sent to us.”

After contacting Palm Beach Police Station, the parent then reached out to the school for clarification and was met with “laughing, followed by them saying ‘it’s been dealt with’.

Just before 9am this morning, the school posted on their Facebook page.

“The school is aware of messages and screenshots that are circulating of a conversation between two students of Elanora SHS that refers to concerns of another student threatening to harm others,” the post said.

“The school has been in contact with the QPS and parents of students involved.

“QPS have investigated the incident and are on site and do not believe students and staff are at risk.

“The school is supporting those students involved through the Guidance Officer and meetings have been arranged with key parents.

“The school will continue to monitor the wellbeing of all students and the safety of all on site is our first priority.

“There is no risk to students at the school and it is a normal school day.”

When contacted this morning, the school said no one would be making a comment.
