AN accused serial fraudster who sold first-home buyers and young families kit homes and house and land packages that were never built has breached his bail by posing as a developer on social media.

Matthew Michael Nair, 35, appeared in the Southport Magistrates Court this morning charged with breaching a condition of his Supreme Court bail that prohibited him from entering into any property development activity.

Nair is on bail for almost 50 offences, including fraud and extortion, that he allegedly committed on the Gold Coast and at Beenleigh between 2013 and 2015.

The breach involved claiming he was the “creative director” of 888 Development Group on an online LinkedIn profile.

Nair’s profile on the business social networking site also claims he previously headed up “Nair Properties 1” where he successfully developed “commercial and residential structures”.

Nair also allegedly sent requests to two people who have involvement in his criminal matters to “join his online network”.

The court also heard Nair met with a Gold Coast real estate agent and inspected a development site late last year and claimed to have the backing of the developer.

However, because he did not enter into any deal, the court heard this was not a breach of his bail.

Defence lawyer Ashkan Tai told the court his client had sent blanket requests to multiple people, rather than directly attempting to contact specific people.

“If it gives the court any comfort he sent me a request too and I ignored it,” Mr Tai said.

The 35-year-old allegedly posed as a developer and sold contracts for house and land packages at Pimpama that were never realised.

Nair operated out of the business Oz Builds, which had its headquarters in Bundall, and another business called Millionair Enterprises.

Nair is also accused of running Ponzi schemes, controlling several companies from the Gold Coast, Thailand, and the US, which all went into liquidation.

The 35-year-old Nair was regranted bail after allegedly breaching the Supreme Court bail he was granted in January last year after posting a $30,000 surety.

Nair cannot use any form of social media as a condition of his bail.

Mr Tai said his client would continue to fight the charges, most of which have been committed for trial.
