A man is in a ‘serious’ condition after suffering life threatening injuries when his car flipped and left him trapped inside.
A spokeswoman for the Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service confirmed last night that the 20 year old driver was in a serious condition.
The man was transported to Cairns Hospital on Saturday morning with life-threatening head, arm, chest and leg injuries after his car crashed just after 3am on the Bruce Hwy, south of Mill Rd in Edmonton.
A spokesman for the Queensland Fire Department said three crews arrived at the crash at approximately 3.14am and began trying to free the man.
“There was a single vehicle on its roof with one person trapped inside,” A QFD spokesman said
“They went into action with cutting gear. We made access to the person at 4.53am and that person was released from the vehicle and taken with the Queensland Ambulance Service.”
The crash closed all southbound lanes of the Bruce Hwy between Mill and Petersen Rds until just after 8am.
