USED syringes and “blood-soaked” clothing have been found littered in a Gold Coast park, with the local councillor fearing an “escalation” in the suburb’s drug addiction.
Division 11 councillor Hermann Vorster said he was disturbed to learn two used syringes and clothing stained with blood were found at the entrance to Frascott Park in Varsity Lakes on Monday.
Concerned members of the public reported the incident to police and council.

Cr Vorster said while he occasionally found drug paraphernalia in more remote areas of his division, it was rare to see it in family-orientated spaces.
“For me this marks an escalation in the problem because it’s a syringe that’s been dumped at the entrance to a park, rather than the bush where drug addicts congregate in a way that’s hidden,” he said.
